I had more fun recording this project than in previous ones. I felt as though I got into a rhythm allowing me to complete more songs than usual. By the end, I had so many songs wasn't sure what to do with them. I picked the best and gelled them into a cohesive playlist aka Laniakea Unlocked. I had roughly 23 tracks started or completed and ended up with 13. A vast majority of them were during the last 3 months when there was hardly a night wasn't in the studio working.
Each track is mastered differently from the next. Some had the same settings as others yet the style and texture of the sonic field would vary depending on where the song was traveling. Original demos that cut, later on, turned into galactic versions titles labeled on the liner notes. I have a small humble studio set up yet have produced my music for a long time which informed my decisions.
The turning point seemed to be finishing the track "It Ain't Over Yet". "Memory Banks" was already in the works and a few earlier demos were showing promise. Later on added, "Captain's Cabin", "Wonder" and "Dry Spell" made for a great track#2 and the revamped Ladybug a strong 3. The tracks altogether complete a story through "Shrine of the Desert" and "Laniak Ness" became the monster build-up to Laniakea.
I like producing albums because they show more of what I can do. Singles can be neat yet they don't always give the overall impression of an artist. Albums give me a chance to show an array of ideas and tell a story that connects with my audience. This album was a joy to make and I hope I get the chance to do this again soon.
